Emily Dickinson on Words

I stumbled upon this Emily Dickinson poem yesterday, and I think it succinctly explains what I love so much about words.

A word is dead
When it is said,
Some say.
I say it just
Begins to live
That day.

This is the incredible thing about writing: the words live on, and in different ways for different people. Saying or writing a word is not the end of the word, it's just the beginning.

Thanks for the reminder, Emily Dickinson.
